Love the transparency. Are you still offering the founders’ subscriptions?

I had no idea that you had this website and honestly thought I paid for a couple of homeless journos to email me a daily newsletter from the back of their AMC Pacer. Cool beans!

I don't know whether to be more proud of you guys or envious, to be honest. I also started around three months ago. My conversion rate is between 1-2%.

I like that you don't do content behind a paywall, especially for local news I think that's super nice to see. Also your duo format for creating must be super efficient.

I'll be lucky to get over 100 subs in the lifetime of my Newsletters, so be grateful for what you got guys!

Thanks for the transparent update. I was looking around for foundational support for local Substack newsletters and I came across your newsletter. I applied for the Substack grant (actually I did not fully understand that is what it was). If I recall correctly my status as an individual rather than an organization disqualified me. Yesterday I decided to approach foundations supporting local news. They talk about developing new models but it is allways about "news organizations", not idependents. You should qualify as an organization.

However Substack newsletters is a new model and I am trying to get local news foundations to agree. There are many listed on the Knight Foundation Page. Why not organizations that will take founding member subscriptions at what ever amount they are willing to give. If more people suggest such a program, perhaps it will be considered.

I believe local news should be free. Foundational subscriptions make it possible.
