About single shot: it's not so much that Dems advise independents to vote for one R and one D - they advise everyone to vote for a D and only run one when the math suggests it's going to be a squeaker or worse. And it turns out there are a surprising number of people who, even if two Dems are running, only vote for one. The ballots are long and confusing unless you take a lot of time to study them, and many voters miss the memo that they can vote for two, so if you run two those D or D-leaning voters will divide their vote between the two Dems.

Also, it's not only the Democratic Party that determines how many are running. There's also the little matter of who wants to actually run. I've never done it, but I gather it's not always a ton of fun.

AI voice scams? Hmmm. About six months ago, I got a 520 phone call from number that looked familiar, so I answered it. A cheery young woman, said, "Hi, Grandma, how are you doing? I just called to say hi." I was surprised by the call because it was unusual. I have three granddaughters. Two of them are small children and have called me by clicking my picture on their mom's phone, but they don't talk like a 16-year-old. My other granddaughter is in middle school and has a phone but she would've been in school at the time of this phone call. The big clue was that no one calls me "grandma." I played along for a little bit and eventually said, "who is this?" They said, "This is your granddaughter, don't you recognize me?" It was a very clever ruse. I could see how it would totally work on a senior who was a little more confused and who had more grandchildren. I finally said, "you're not my granddaughter," and the person hung up.

Glad to see y'all branching out. The folks reading the newsletter, I'm guessing, probably skew toward the more engaged and informed. Trying to reach out to younger generations and help them better understand the local issues that impact them most is important work.

There's a rebuttal of this single-shot analysis, with data: https://twitter.com/A_R_Stumpf/status/1726960292838670393. No data science folks on staff at the Agenda, are there?
