Thank you for giving Curt a voice here in the Agenda. I had the opportunity to work with him at the Star and have great respect for the work he did, including that 412 coverage. The opinion pages were one of the reasons I subscribed to the Star. With shrinking local coverage and more reprinted news from the Capitol Timed and the Mirror, it’s getting harder to justify my subscription.

When the Flagstaff Daily Sun lost it's long time managing editor (an unfortunate, early death), we lost his editorial insight, his weekly meetings with a rotating group of locals, and his thoughtful balance of our local issues and controversies. The new managing editor doesn't share those interests and much of the editorial page is now syndicated columns. Luckily, some locals take initiative to write and submit columns and thoughtful letters to the editor but there is no leadership from the paper. A great loss.

Suggestion to Arizona Agenda: Switch your Friday in depth pieces to Monday so we can see the Thursday news roundup before its stale.

Corporate overlords. Everywhere these days. I’m so sorry, Tucson’s loss is also the state of Arizona’s loss. Russia jails them, modest profits fire them in the US. Much luck to you, sir. You will find something. I’m certain.

Read somewhere the Star made $9 million last year. Everything will be on Substack before we know it. Good luck to everyone who is out there looking for a journalism job.
